Green Solutions
About:
The City of New Orleans recognizes the opportunity to improve energy efficiency and sustainablity standards as part of the rebuilding effort. In order to promote this goal the City has developed Green Solutions, a mandatory set of standards for new civic buildings. It addresses specific local environmental issues and seeks to improve building standards throughout the city.
Green Solutions will:
- Improve productivity and comfort of building occupants
- Reduce contaminants in buildings and throughout the construction phase that cause illness and discomfort to construction workers and future tenants
- Conserve and reduce energy, water, and waste generated from the building and construction process
- Design buildings with enhanced operational and maintenance capacities to reduce environmental impacts after construction ends
- Create partnerships in the building industry that focus on environmental stewardship and smart design
- Promote integrated design for all future projects that will raise the bar for sustainable practices and enable Green Solutions to become the standard way of design
