In partnership with local non-profits, city agencies, and other organizations, the City of New Orleans created the GreeNOLA website to help everyone recover, rebuild, and live in sustainable, environmentally friendly communities.
The City has made strides in sustainable development by encouraging sustainable transportation practices through numerous bike pathway installations and bio-diesel fueled buses, reducing the City’s carbon footprint through the installation of LED street lights, and expanding our renewable energy portfolio through our Solar America City initiative.
The City of New Orleans was one of the few cities in the nation to sign on to the Kyoto protocol some time ago, and continues to support the reduction of green house gas emissions. The GreeNOLA program has created a way for the City to advance well beyond it’s post Katrina recovery and into a City of the 21st Century.
